This is an excellent text/atlas on the diagnosis, treatment, complications, and management of all midline tumorous lesions encountered in neurosurgical patients. The pituitary adenomas, craniopharygiomas, chordomas, meningiomas, arachnoid and third ventricular cysts, as well as others are described in detail in each of these sections. Full color photographs including cadaver and intraoperative views are included. The structures are perfectly described and labeled. The role of chemotherapy is discussed. Radiotherapy and radiosurgery are described very well.
Frontal, subfrontal, transphenoidal, nasal flaps, pterional and temporal approaches are all perfectly described. There are no deficiencies in this excellent operative guide. There is no doubt in my mind that the expert international panel of editors do a complete coverage. Classification of nuclei/midbrain structures like the thalamus, fornix, sphenoidal lesions are depicted. The strongest part of the book is the MIS or endoscopic atlases it provides. The other books by Axel Pernecky and endoscopic experts are compared with the current thinking about midline neurosurgery. The book is suited for residents, fellows and neurosurgeons.
